![]() ![]() If there was one word to describe Land of Sand and Song, it would be adrenaline, because this was truly such an adventure packed into a mere 264 pages! Not only did tropes like assassins, elemental magic, slow burn romances enrich into the plot immensely, I truly appreciated all the political intrigue (definitely a worthy comparison to the wonder that is Descendant of the Crane) as well as the intergenerational conflict. "Even in the deepest winter and driest desert, hope springs eternal." Our main character, Desert Rose was no exception, she's strong, family-oriented, feisty, but not without her vulnerabilities which shaped her into such a complex character whose journey I was so invested in! With all wonderful novels, my favourite were the characters. ![]() I was drew in by the premise of an all POC character cast, assassins and slow burn and was given all that plus an intricate world, tribal magic, swordfighting and so much tension, both conflict and romance-wise. I just finished Land of Sand and Song by Joyce Chua and was quite frankly, blown away. I believe we are the makers of our own lives and are only as free as we allow ourselves to be."
